The Battle of Elcho Park was a skirmish in 1297, which was a part of the First War of Scottish Independence. In a prelude to the battle, William Wallace had defeated a force under John Butler, and killed him. He had then gone raiding through Perth. After this, the English defeated them in Shortwood Shaw, a forest nearby, by using several archers. The same English army, only reinforced, met them in Elcho Park. The Scots were surrounded and backed up to a river. It seemed hopeless, but the Scots fought for their lives, pressed the English back with heavy casualties, but suffured bad. After they force the English to reorganize, they made a fast getaway. Afterwards, an unusual event happened. Wallace killed one of his lieutenants; Sir Fawdon, probably because of trechery.
