i get this bug too. seems pretty serious?

Yup, this is indeed a serious bug. Weirdly enough, it passed through our net because it doesn't occur if you are running Firebug, and all our developers and QA people were running it, so they didn't see it and, when it was first reported, couldn't reproduce it.
However, they're on it now, and I'm hoping they'll roll out a patch ASAP.

This bug should now be fixed in /client/dev/96, which is on Sandbox, and which we plan to release to production by the beginning of next week -- possibly sooner. If you try to create a base on Sandbox and have any issues, please let us know!
Meanwhile, you can still create a base on www.freebase.com by either (a) using Safari, or (b) using Firefox with Firebug enabled. (The buggy code seemed to expect a debug console).
