Liliom

Set in Budapest, this is a movie adaptation of the play of the same name (later adapted into the more well known 1950's musical "Carousel") about the doomed love affair between a carousel barker and young woman that ends in tragedy when he gets involved in an ill-conceived robbery. He dies and after some time in the afterlife, is given a brief chance to make amends with the love he left behind.
