Sets of paper weaves that flow from text to image in a literal translation of recipe to product, depicted as a sliding scale representing weights and measures. The piece uses sections from an historic magazine, a 1970s part-work by Marguerite Patten. As advisor for the Ministry of Food during WW2, Patten produced guidance for cooking on rations. Patten’s 1970s publications contrast a change in social climate and secured patterns of cooking for the post war generation: a difference of celebration and experimentation rather than survival and sustenance. The title of the piece is taken directly from a section of text. Executed at Martin’s home studio of the time in Rotherhithe, London.
