In the special, SpongeBob learns what Christmas is about, and creates excitement in everyone in Bikini Bottom. However, the one grinch who decides to not partake in the merriment is Squidward.
The special opens with live-action pieces depicting the character of Patchy the Pirate (president of the fictional “SpongeBob fan club”) reading letters from fans and engaging in mischief with his parrot, Potty. To get his mind off of Potty’s silliness, he begins the episode.
