Giovanni Baptista Cairati

Italian born miltitary engineer (?-1597) responsable for the design of most of the important Portuguese forts of the Indian Ocean, mainly from 1583 onwards. Fort Jesus in Mombassa is probably his last work. Portugal was under Spannish rule at the time.
