Deletion of "History of Jews in"-topics

Hi Skud,
I created a type for Jewish Communities a few days ago. I would like to merge the existing "history of the Jews in"-topics, which are dealing with villages or towns whith existing Jewish Community topics. Or I will just rename and type them appropriatly. Is it possible to revert the existing votes on specific Jewish communities, like Prague, Laupheim etc.
best regards,
Frank

What would merging the topics give you? The topics I flagged for deletion were untyped, so they have no properties. I'm not sure merging would "History of Jews in X" with "X Jewish Community" is right, and I have to admit I'm a bit dubious of "X Jewish Community" as a topic at all. Would we also create "X Catholic Community", "X secular community", and the like? I see you have included the type "Religious Organization" but that's more usually used for formal organisations than people with a certain faith in a certain geographic area. Eg. the Union for Traditional Judaism or United Synagogue Youth. Though they don't all appear to be correctly imported and typed and have their religion property set correctly, there's a good list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Jewish_organizations

Hi,
As I learned, Jewish communities are organized as public corporations (like Jewish Community of Berlin: http://www.jg-berlin.org/en/about-us/organisational-structure.html). The "problem" with "Jewish Communities" at all is that the term of the religious jurisdiction and the organization are identical. (mmmh?!) I will add the religion property associated_with as soon as possible.

kirilly, on nov 3 you flaged a bunch of 'histpry of' topics that i dont think should be deleted. 'history of' topics are at the least, /book/booksubjects

Spencer, we've been over this multiple times. If that's a book topic then so is "Opinions on the media coverage of the weather in Melbourne on the day of Kirrily Robert's birth". If you're tempted to put "X of Y" as a book subject, you should instead put "X" and "Y". I.e. the books in question should have the subjects "History" and "Judaism" and probably "Prague" or whatever the place in question is. That way people who query for:
- History of Jews in Prague (i.e. subject = History + Judaism + Prague)
- History of Judaism (History + Judaism)
- Judaism in Prague (Judaism + Prague)
- History of Prague (History + Prague)
- History
- Prague
- Judaism
... will all find the book in question. If "X of Y" is the subject, then all of that breaks.

FYI, I've made a wiki page on the subject of subjects, here: http://wiki.freebase.com/wiki/Subject

I really like your wiki!
