This edition is part of a print run of 2,000 books printed for MacMillan Publishers by The Clarendon Press of Oxford on June 27, 1865. The quality was deemed to be unacceptable. The paper was going to be sold as scrap. Instead, 1,952 copies were re-bound with a new title page, listing David Appleton & Co of Boston as the publisher, and sent to the US.
