Death in Paradise is a crime drama/comedy joint UK/French television programme filmed in Guadeloupe, an overseas region of France, created by Robert Thorogood and starring Ben Miller and Sara Martins.
The plot centres on the character of straight-laced English policeman Richard Poole (Ben Miller), a detective from London's Metropolitan Police. He is sent to the fictional Caribbean island of Saint-Marie to solve the case of the death of a fellow British policeman. After solving the death of his predecessor, he ends up becoming the local police force's new detective.
A second series, consisting of eight 60-minute episodes, was commissioned officially by the BBC Head of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson on 11 January 2012. It is set to air in late 2012 or early 2013.
The first episode received final viewing figures of just over 6 million, outperforming ITV’s celebrity endurance series 71 Degrees North.
Series 1 of Death in Paradise is due for general release on 8 October 2012.
