Prince Henry, Duke of Cornwall (January 1, 1511-February 21, 1511) was born at Greenwich Palace and was the first son and first living child born to King Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. Catherine had given earlier birth to a stillborn daughter, on 31 January 1510. Prince Henry lived for fifty-two days, and was given a lavish christening where beacons were lit in his honor. The christening gifts included a fine gold salt holder and cup weighing a total 99 ounces, given by Louis XII, his godfather.The King staged a tournament in his honor at Westminster. The tournament was the most lavish of Henry's reign, and is recorded via a long illuminated vellum roll. He was soon sent to Richmond Palace and soon to be proclaimed as Prince of Wales after his christening. He died soon after, and received a state funeral at Westminster Abbey. It was another two years until the Queen again became pregnant. There is no known picture of Prince Henry.
