January 25, 2009: We are using FreeBase as a location to compile information and data that has been collected over the past 40 years concerning American Airlines flight 383 {1965} and Trans World Airlines flight 128 {1967}. We are presenting this site as a memorial to the victims and their families pending an actual memorial to be placed in Northern Kentucky, hopefully in the near future.
This endeavor has not been easy. As the recent crash in Buffalo N. Y.{February 2009] demonstrates, airliner events of this magnitude are horrific and result in much tragedy. Even after 40 years the memories of those impacted remain vivid. As outside observers, it is hard for us to understand the feelings of those involved and we are helpless in offering constructive assistance.
Nevertheless, attempts have been made to be as accurate and sensitive as possible in documenting the human story of these calamities. We have had successes along Kentucky 8, interviewing residents, witnesses and gaining access to crash sites with permission from kind property owners.
Yet, there remain many stories and statistics to gather on the lives, long forgotten by us, that were changed forever by a series of mistakes and miscalculations that resulted in these unfortunate aviation events. Each individual onboard these flights has a gallery where family members and friends are encouraged to help us build a lasting tribute by uploading pictures and adding data to tell the story of their lives.
I want to again thank Toni Ketchell for visiting us at Fotki.com. We appreciate all of her efforts in making air travel safer today then in the 1960's.
Also a special thanks to my son in law, Matt Jasko, for assisting me at the crash site of AA 383 and to Linda Holbrook for suggesting a permanent memorial and for coming onboard to help with research and building the FreeBase website!
The editors at FreeBase have been instrumental in providing us with a public platform. They have been very helpful in getting our documentation started and in their continuing encouragement for us to keep movng forward with the project.
Mark Free, witness to the November 1967 TWA 128 crash, has now joined {April 2009} our research and memorial project and is an invaluable addition to our endeavor.
In recent weeks, July 2009, we have added a number of new members and contributors:
Eileen Haile: Survivor TWA Flight 128
Chris Haile: Survivor TWA Flight 128
Harvey Pelley: Hebron Fire Department {veteran of flights 383 and 128}
Bill Smith: Hebron Fire Department {veteran of flights 383 and 128}
